On September 19–20, Almaty celebrates City Day with a large-scale festive event featuring programming across the city. Main venues are located at Astana Square, Abaya Square, the pedestrian streets of Panfilova and Zhibek Zholy, the square in front of Alatau Theatre, and other areas throughout the city. The program includes concerts by Kazakhstani artists, national sports competitions, fairs, a book festival, exhibitions, family and ethno-cultural zones, and various sporting events.
