Altyn Emel National Park is one of Kazakhstan's largest national parks, covering over 3,000 square kilometres. The Aktau Mountains form an open-air museum of chalk formations in various hues—from pale blue to ochre—containing fossils from the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras. The Katutau Mountains are distinguished by their striking red magmatic rock formations with fantastical shapes. The park is home to over 260 bird species and rare wildlife including kulans and jeyrans. The guided excursion visits both mountain systems, departing from Almaty.
