Almaty Museum of Arts is Central Asia's first major private contemporary art museum, founded on the collection of entrepreneur and patron Nurlan Smagulов. The museum welcomed over 460,000 visitors in its first year of operation. The institution houses permanent and temporary exhibition galleries, an education centre, a café, and a shop. The collection comprises more than 700 works of contemporary Kazakh art, as well as works by artists who have lived in Kazakhstan for extended periods.
