Altyn Emel National Park is a unique nature reserve located in Zhetysу Region, 250 km from Almaty. The Aktau Mountains are renowned for their distinctive multicoloured rock layers dating back approximately 60 million years, resembling a giant layer cake. Katutau Mountains are ancient volcanic formations with striking rock shapes, considered by locals to be a place of power. The park encompasses a geopark with remarkable flora and fauna, including kulans, argali sheep, and Persian gazelles.
