E.T.A. Hoffmann's beloved fairy tale, adapted for the stage by Russian children's author T. Ufimtseva, tells of a Christmas miracle in the home of a poor chimney sweep. Sisters Louise and Marie receive dolls as gifts from the master craftsman Drosselmeyer: a princess and the Nutcracker. When Louise begins to mock the ugly doll, Marie stands up for it, believing that outer beauty is not what matters. Drosselmeyer reveals a secret to the girl: the Nutcracker is his nephew, cursed for his kindness. Can Marie use her love to help the Nutcracker defeat Queen Myshilda and break the spell?
