Unlike the ski resorts near Almaty, Borovoe is not a single slope but an entire resort town: sanatoriums, guest houses, spas, water parks, rope courses, barbecue areas, and restaurants along the shores of several lakes. In summer, enjoy beach relaxation and walks through pine forests; in winter, skiing, tubing, and snowmobiling across gentle terrain.

History

Formally known as the Shchuchinsk-Borovoe Resort Zone, the area has historically operated approximately 35 permanent recreational facilities with a combined capacity of around 7,600 guests. The distance and format make Borovoe an ideal weekend getaway (not to be confused with Borovoe National Nature Park featured in the "Sacred Places" section — it's in the same location but focuses on landscape and lakes rather than leisure infrastructure).
