National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Location: Located within the city on the left bank of the Ishim River, Independency Square, Tauelsizdik Prospect, 54.

About this place: The largest museum in Kazakhstan and Central Asia showcasing the country's history from ancient times to the present day.

The museum is integrated into the main architectural ensemble of the left bank, situated next to the Palace of Independence, the Pyramid, and the Hazret Sultan Mosque. The building itself, constructed from blue glass and white marble, comprises seven structures of varying heights. Inside, visitors should head directly to the Gold Hall, where the famous Golden Man from the Issyk Kurgan is displayed, and to the Astana Hall featuring a dynamic model of the city that traces its transformation from a small regional center to the current capital.

History

The museum was established by government decree in 2013, and the building on Independency Square opened in 2014. The total area of the complex is 74,000 square meters, with more than 14,000 square meters dedicated to exhibitions; the museum's collections contain over 175,000 artifacts. It is the largest and youngest museum in Central Asia.
